There’s Actually A US Town With Absolutely No WiFi Or Cell Phones

no internetIf you’ve ever dreamed of a simpler lifestyle — say, one without cell phones and Internet — you needn’t move to Amish country to get a taste of life without modern conveniences.

There is a town in West Virginia that has no WiFi access or cellular service – at all.

Pocahontas County is in the National Radio Quiet Zone, a 13,000-square-mile area that surrounds the Green Bank Telescope, a super-sensitive telescope that measures radio waves throughout the universe.

Because it’s so sensitive to radioactivity, Congress put restrictions on the use of cell phones and wireless devices in the area surrounding the telescope, which explains the town’s lack of modern communication technology.

National Geographic made a short video about the town, which you can see above.

Interestingly, several commenters remarked that they’d love to live in a peaceful place like that, but it is definitely not for everyone.

Although, if this town’s residents can live permanently without phones and Internet, we should all be able to spend a little less time glued to ours.
